Opening Day

Well, the Cubs begin the 2005 season in about an hour, and the Illini are competing for the national championship tonight. Oh man, life is good. The Cubs are starting Carlos Zembrano, the youngest opening day starter for them in almost 50 years, and they have question marks everywhere on the field. Yet I’ve never been more excited.

One quick thought on the Illini, for anyone interested, they are a two and a half point underdog tonight, and probably deservedly so. The thing that cracks me up is the fact that all season, sports writers have been mentioning more and more ways in which they are beatable, and they are on the verge of being the only NCAA team in history to win 38 games in one season. That seems pretty unbeatable to me. So I guess we’ll just see what happens tonight, but they’ve managed to be pretty near unbeatable, despite how much people say they can be beat.

So go Illini!!
Go Cubs!!

And a quick toast to Pope JP2. He’s in a better place, where the Cubs always win, Yankees always lose, and church softball leagues always tie. Cheers!
